New Line Cinema had planned to make all three of Philip Pullman’s books that compriseHis Dark Materials into major motion pictures.  Due to the successful boycott led by the Catholic League, the first film, “The Golden Compass,” was less than a commercial success.  It now appears that the second book, The Subtle Knife, will not make it to the big screen after all.  Pullman recently admitted that the league’s boycott hurt ticket sales for “The Golden Compass,” thus killing plans to film the whole series.
