In yesterday’s debate on the Senate floor over stem cell research, New York Senator Charles Schumer said that those who oppose embryonic stem cell research were “theocrats” who “want their faith to dictate what the government does.” He then called them “un-American.”
Responding is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:
“Senator Schumer needs to explain himself: Are those Christians who want the U.S. to back Israel at any cost ‘theocrats’? And when they invoke the Bible to justify their rabid support of Israel, are they—in your own words, Senator—using ‘their faith to dictate what the government does’? If not, why not?”
