The Democratic National Committee (DNC) no longer lists Catholics for a Free Choice (CFFC) on its website.  The “links” section of the DNC website was rearranged over the weekend.  There is no more “Catholic” entry, but there is a new category, “Religious Affiliated”; it lists some legitimate Catholic and Jewish organizations and publications, and CFFC is not among them.  CFFC has also been deleted from the “Pro Choice” entry on the DNC’s “links” page.

Catholic League president William Donohue commented on this development today:

“For the past three months, the Catholic League has led a protest against the DNC for its association with Frances Kissling’s anti-Catholic organization, Catholics for a Free Choice.  We spent thousands of dollars on ads in Catholic newspapers and secular magazines pressuring the DNC to dump CFFC; we enlisted the support of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; we wrote to every member of the House and Senate detailing the Catholic-bashing activities of Kissling; we mobilized our members via our monthly journal, Catalyst; we posted information on our website about the DNC; and we issued 15 news releases on the subject.  Finally, we have won.

“We’re not finished with Kissling.  I will now personally write to all of her major donors letting them know they are wasting their money on her.  If the DNC wants nothing to do with her, what sense does it make to fund her?  Our goal is to disable Kissling’s anti-Catholic work and nothing will stop us from doing so.  Not until she’s toast will we back off.  Indeed, not even her filthy-rich friends in elite foundations can save her.

“We will not congratulate the DNC for doing the right thing.  They backed down because their alliance with Kissling wasn’t worth all the heat they were getting.  But for Catholics, this victory is oh, so sweet.”
