Scanlan. Nolan shared master of ceremonies duties with chapter president James Jandrisitz. The group was welcomed by Bro. Joseph Burke, FSC, president of LaSalle.
Minnesota Chapter
Minnesota chapter board member Judge D.D. Wozniak has been named to the board of the newly formed Americans for School Choice (see “New organization will push for school choice at state level”). Wozniak is former chief justice of the Minnesota Court of Appeals (1987-92). As a state legislator, he drafted and secured passage of a law authorizing parents of public, private and parochial school students to deduct the cost of text books and transportation from their income taxes. Contested all the way to the U.S. Supreme court and upheld, the decision in that case – Mueller v. Allen – served as an important precedent in the more recent Zobrest decision.
In June, 1992, the Wall Street Journal recognized his administrative talent, noting that the Minnesota Court of appeals was one of two appellate courts without a backlog.
