This expanded edition of Catalyst was necessitated by the surge of anti-Catholicism that hit us all at once from many parts of the country. For your interest, and for the historical record, we are including several pages dealing with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in San Francisco.

What follows is the exchange of letters that William Donohue and Mayor Willie Brown had over this issue. Also included are photos and the half-page ad we ran in the San Francisco Chronicle on March 29. This section concludes with a representative sample of the hate-filled comments that were directed at Catholics and the Catholic League.

We are most proud of the ad we ran. Though is cost over $16,000, it was worth every nickel: by putting the “Sisters,” and the city of San Francisco, on the defensive, it generated the kind of public discussion that must occur if the culture is to change.
